About the Subject:
Keeping with the demands of Women students to seek management know how, Janseva Samiti started BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies) in 2003 and BCA (Bachelor of Computer Application) in 2005, both being three year degree courses to cater to the needs of the students in order to help them build up a bright career in the future, which is the need of the society at large.

As of today, the college has established itself as one of the prominent colleges in the western suburbs in service of deprived girls. It has also come to be recognized itself in academics, sports, cultural and other extracurricular activities.

We are in the 8th year of BMS and our students are boldly marching towards the career growth successfully. No doubt, there is a growth in the student’s admissions and their study performances but what is commendable in their success stories in their endeavors.

The College has well qualified, experienced and distinguished teaching faculty. It has been also awarded .A in reaccreditation by NAAC; the college is also expanding the educational horizons.

About the Department:

The department offers following facilities to the students:

High-tech Computer Lab:
Our IT lab is well equipped with latest PCs (80+), Projectors, networking and internet facilities, to enable hands on experience of the concepts in IT.

Teaching Aids:
The department is equipped with Digital Camera, Web Camera, Mike, Laptop, LCD, OHP for better learning environment using various audio-visual aids.

Book Loan Facility & Departmental Library:
Text Books and Reference Books are made available to students as per requirement. Through the book bank facility, the books are made available for the entire semester to each of the student.

Apart from this the departmental library also maintains a collection of books and CDs on yearly basis useful for students. Various magazines like Harvard Business School review, ICFAI journals are subscribed and issued to the students regularly.

Provision of Educational CD's:
We have an exhaustive collection of Educational and Informative subject related cds (107 CDs) The CDs are provided to the students on returnable basis.

Internet facility is available to the students whereby they can get information that is needed to prepare their projects and reports. It also helps them to gather up to date information about the latest topics in their subjects

Guidance and counseling cell:
Guidance is provided to our students with regards to their career and social needs by well known

Placement Cell:
The college has formed a placement cell to help the students to seek suitable jobs. Many students have been placed in various organisations like HSBC,JUST DIAL , WIPRO etc. in the last couple of years.

Academic Events:
Seminars, Workshops and Training Programs on various aspects of management, personality development, communication skills, and career opportunities are conducted on a regular basis.

Industrial visits:
Industrial visits to various industries and institutes are another highlight of the department. A number of short visits covering organizations in and around the city and one long industrial visit to various manufacturing units in Bangalore, Delhi, Silvassa and other far off places are organized. Various Malls, shopping centres and other NGO’s are visited to build a sense of social responsibility within the student.

Co-curricular and extracurricular activities:

Students are encouraged to take part in various co-curricular and extracurricular activities, competitions at college and inter-collegiate level like dance competition, management quiz, power point presentations, Ad – zap events etc.

About the Faculty:
The department has well qualified, experienced and distinguished teaching faculty.

Prof. R.R. Shah:
Mr. R.R. Shah has been associated with the institution for more than 30 years. During his tunure he has successfully delivered as the Vice-principal of the college and now continues to be the course co-coordinator for BCA-BMS. He is open for new ideas and an enthusiast learner. A friend, philosopher and guide are the roles he plays for the department. Positive attitude and always a catalyst for change are the assets of his personality.

Dr. Yasmeen Bhatia:
Dr.Yasmeen Bhatia, has completed her PhD. and M.Phil. She has been associated with the Institution for past 12 years. Her quest for knowledge continues as she is pursuing her MBA.

She is the In-charge of BMS department, and an important link between the students and college. She has presented papers on rural marketing strategies and has won 3rd prize, conducted by SNDT University, Churchgate. She is always upgrared with current trends in her field of expertise and aims at total development of the students.

Mrs. Vidyalakshmi:
She is holding an MBA degree with specialization in HR management. She has previously taught in MMP Shah College, Matunga for BMS department, Valia Collge, Andheri for M.Com part I Currently she has been associated with Shree M.D. Shah Mahila college for last 2 years and also teaching in ICFAI to MBA(Marketing) students.

She has been associated with the Aapasi Pratishthan, KARAV which works for education of street children. She has headed the “General Key Management System” project and won 3rd Prize at a national level seminar held by NCQM for 2009-10.She has participated in Online “International leadership seminar series 2010” organized by Dowling College, New York.

She aspires to pursue PhD and interested in exploring new ideas, dramatics and dance.

Mrs. Asha Nanglia
Mrs. Asha Nanglia has done her MA in English. She has successfully conducted seminars in reiki, Feng Shui and Astro Vasstu. She conducts classes for ceramic painting and cooking.

She has been associated with Durgadevi Saraf Junior College, N.M. College and Dalmia College.

USP of the Department:
Remedial Classes
To take care of the academically weaker students the remedial classes are undertaken. These classes, taken after the college hours every day, provide the students help in coping up with the demands of the subject.

Quality circles
A group of students get together for self study under the guidance of the teacher, these sessions are held to enhance their potentials and improvise their performance.

Yahoo groups
Yahoo groups have been started from November 2007 all the students of B.M.S and B.C.A of the college joined this group and are working in it. This is the easiest way for the group of people to communicate on the Internet. Most of the files are uploaded to the students by the lecturer so that the students are benefited through this. Also all the industrial visit details, seminar details, exam time table, class timetable etc are entered in this group so the students are updated.

Online and Viva Internal Examination
Additional changes are being brought to enable BCA department students excel in this growing field by starting Online Examinations and Viva-Voce to give the students an idea on revolution in examination patterns around the globe and to make their concepts clear.

Online Internal Examination
An “ONLINE INTERNAL EXAMINATION SYSTEM” was introduced and successfully carried in the Department. All faculty members prepared more than 150 multiple choice questions for their respective subject. Students at random had to answer 40 questions each. After submitting the last question, system automatically generates the result and Mark Sheets for inpidual student. It was a unique exciting experience for the students.

Viva Voce Internal Examination
Our Faculties prepared 50 short answer type questions in each of their subjects. Each question carries 2 marks. In a group of 5 students the viva was conducted by the Subject teacher.
Because of this exam students were forced to study the fundamentals of the subject and they enthusiastically participated in this activity.

NCQM (National Quality Management)
Our student won 3rd prize at National Level Competition held by an NCQM. Their project on general “Key Management System” won applaud as the project was presented by our 3rd year BCA and BMS students under the guidance of Dr. Deepa Sharma and Prof. R.R.Shah. This project was headed by our BMS faculty, Mrs. Vidyalakshmi.

International Seminar on Leadership Qualities
Being in association with the new learning world our college gave an opportunity to some of our students and teachers to participate in on Online collaboration “International leadership seminar series 2010” from January 2010 to may 2010. The participating colleges were Dowling College New York, University of Panamerica Mexico, Iona College New York and Shri M. D. Shah Mahila College India.

In this series 16 lectures were posted from different faculties around the world on Blackboard. Lectures on women leading in global economy ported by Dr. Ranjana Mishra, Ethical Challenges for leaders by Mr. Robert Manley, Challenges of change in higher education by Dr. Deepa Sharma. And Mrs. Geeta Patil were some amongst them.

This gave us an opportunity to interact with our fellow counterparts around the world. The comments posted could be read by all members. It was a wonderful interaction to improvise our understanding and analytical skills.

Other achievements :
Ms. Bhumika Ahir was awarded “Best Talented Player” at UMIT for intercollegiate cricket.
Ms. Hemangi Mulaye was awarded “Best Bowler” at UMIT for intercollegiate cricket.
