About the Subject
Music is taught as D.C. subject in Marathi, English, Hindi and Gujarati Mediums. Students are given training of theory as well as practical in Indian Classical Music and also light Music, Semi Classical forms like Kajari, Dadoya, Thumari & Bhajans as per the syllabus prescribed by the University. Students having basic qualification and interest in Music are admitted after clearing the audition.

Music is a performing art, apart from the syllabus students are also trained for stage performance through various programs conducted throughout the year on for various competitions at college and University level. Various occasions such as Gurupoornima, Annual Day, and Talent Hunt etc are the events where students perform.

About the Department
The Department was established in 1998 with the initiative and encouragement of the then Principal, Smt. Bharati Naik. Music is taught as Disciplinary Component in Marathi, English, Hindi and Gujarati Mediums.

Great maestros and musicologists such as Padmabhushan Dr. Prabha Atre, Dr. Ashok Ranade, Pt. Ratnakar Pai, Prof. V.R. Athavale, Pt. Smt Dhondutai Kulkarni, Pt. Yeshwant Deo, Pt. Smt. Shruti Sadolikar, Pt. Ajay Pohankar, Pt. Babanrao Haldankar, Pt. Sudhir Mainkar, Dr. Aneesh Pradhan have visited the Department and blessed the students on the occasion of Guru-Pouur and other programmes.

The Department is trying to provide the students good opportunity top serve the art with the continuous encouragement of the Principal and the Management.

About the Faculty
Dr. Anaya Thatte – M.A., LL.B., Ph.D., NET. Sangeet Visharad, Sangeet Alankar.
Her topic for Ph.D. research was, "Concept of Raga, Evolution and Analytical Study of Principles behind the Formation of New Ragas.” Authored a Book named “ Sangitatil Sanshodhan Paddhati .”
She was a Research Scholar of UGC (JRF).
She has received young Musicologist Research Award from University of Amsterdam and ITC for the year 2007.
Member of Music Forum, suburban Zone (NCPA). Representative of the college.

Mrs. Dipti Ambekar – M.A., B.Sc., Diploma in software engineering (Aptech)
Completed Diplomas in Classical and Light Music.
B grade artist of Aakashwani for Light Music.

Shri Vaibhav Kadam – B.Com., Tabla Visharad.
Working as Tabla accompanist.

Secured 1st Prize in Indradhanushya State level Yuva Mahotsav for Group Singing, in 2003-2004.
Represented SNDT University in Group Singing in 2003-2004 and 2005-2006.
Ms. Poonam Sirsat Secured third position in merit list of TYBA. (2002-2003)
