About the subject:- Accounting being the language of business is the heart of all commercial activity. Accounting is no more restricted to just record keeping but has spread its wings into various aspects of Auditing, Financial Management, Taxation and Costing offering a wide field of opportunity to its practitioners and students.

About the Department:- In our SNDT Women’s University all the students of B.Com. Compulsorily study Accountancy as a subject at the 1st year and 2nd year level. Whereas at T.Y.B.Com. level they have optional papers where they have to choose from papers in Financial Accounts, Financial Auditing and Cost Auditing.


M. B. Joshi: A fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, he has more than 25 years of experience in teaching. He is also a member of Association of International Administration, Oxford, London.

Parag Thaker: Being a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India he has more than 17 years of teaching experience. He is an observer appointed by ICAI for C. A. examinations. His area of special interest is management and retailing. He has an M. Phil. Degree from Allagappa University.

Rajesh Chedda: An associate member of ICAI he has more than 12 years of teaching experience. He holds a Ph. D from Helifax University.

Smt Pramila Kunder: She has more than 06 years of teaching experience. She is working currently for her M. Phil. dissertation on Investments in Indian Capital Markets.

Activities of the Department

Guest Lecture -
Guest lecture was arranged for the students of T.Y.B.Com students on “Professional opportunities for students of Accountancy”. CA. Bharat Patel enlightened the students.

A workshop was organized in collaboration with commerce department to train the students in different banking operational aspects. 179 students participated in this workshop and more than 639 students opened a savings banks account at zero balance with Punjab National Bank Malad West branch.

A three day workshop on ‘Loans and advances by different commercial banks with special reference to education loan facilities available to students was arranged in the month of September, 2010. Mrs. Stella, Assistant General Manager from Saraswat co-operative bank was invited for the same.

Keeping the objective of making students aware of global warming, increasing amount of pollution, and need for green Mumbai and clean Mumbai in collaboration with Commerce department a one day visit at Holly Cross Nature Park, near Bhyander was arranged for the students of F.Y.B.Com in the month of September, 2010. 350 students visited the Nature Park.

Presentations by Students-
With a view to develop confidence among students and to develop their personalities, students of S.Y.B.Com were encouraged to make presentation on Vertical format of Company Balance Sheet.

Book Publication -
Two small and concise books on the subject Income-tax and Auditing were prepared and circulated free of cost to the students of T.Y.B.Com by the department. The books were highly appreciated by the students.

Union Budget-
A discussion on the changes to be brought about by the Finance Act 2011 will be discussed and debated by eminent persons with active participation of students.
