The Department of English started its journey in 1968, the same year when the college was established. The college offers English as a compulsory subject to all the students studying in B.A. and B.Com stream making each and every student of the college, a student of the department. Keeping in mind the need of the students and the ever-growing demand of human resources, specially trained in English, the department started B.A specialization in English. While the narratives in the Compulsory Course texts enables students to appreciate human values, increase emotional intelligence, and helps promote critical thinking the teachers of the department lay ample emphasis on developing LSRW skills and competence in Communication. The literature classroom becomes a space for enriching young minds to improve their understanding of the world not only through the beauty of the different genres and forms prescribed but also through the greatness of the everlasting ideas and tangible possibilities which well-known authors, thinkers and writers and narratives/texts possess.

At Shri M D Shah Mahila College of Arts & Commerce English is a compulsory course offered to all students of Arts and Commerce in all 6 semesters. While the narratives in the Compulsory Course texts enables students to appreciate human values, increase emotional intelligence, and helps promote critical thinking, the teachers of the department lay ample emphasis on developing LSRW skills and competence in Communication.

Business Communication is offered as a compulsory core component paper for all three years of the BCom Degree course at SNDT Women’s University. This program focuses on equipping students with the tools and techniques necessary to have an edge over others in the competitive work place as also to expand their employment opportunities and enhance their career advancement potential. This programme focuses on an overall development of linguistic and communication skills.
