Bachelor of Mass Media - BMM

 Introduction to Course

The world has witnessed a phenomenal expansion in communication technology and media. All boundaries have been transcended, and the entire global community seems to have been brought together into one unified world. And it is here that mass-communication, as a stream of study, and as a career, becomes so important and enviable. Keeping this in mind Janseva Samiti started BMM (Bachelor of Mass Media) in June 2011. Post a course in BMM careers in Mass Communication and Media are not only high paying but also bring in a great deal of job satisfaction and expression of creativity.

The mission of our BMM department is to maintain the highest standards of academic excellence, by creating an environment that stimulates critical thinking and broadens understanding of the role and responsibilities of media professionals in a diverse society. It involves a continuing effort to create opportunities for students to explore potential careers and enhance their skills in mass communication through instruction, research, and practical experiences that promote the overall development of the students.

Following are the objectives of the course:

$1·         provide a broad understanding of the role of communication and mass media in     society;

$1·         prepare students for careers in the areas of mass communication – print journalism, broadcasting, public relations, and visual communication;

$1·         offer services to the community through workshops, seminars, and media facilities;

$1·         provide an intellectual climate for students to think critically of issues related to mass media at the regional, national, and global levels

High-tech Computer Lab

Our IT lab is well equipped with latest PCs (80+), Projectors, networking and internet facilities, to enable hands on experience of the concepts in IT.

Teaching Aids

The department is equipped with Digital Camera, Web Camera, Mike, Laptop, LCD, and OHP for better learning environment using various audio-visual aids. We also use blended learning to enhance student understanding of various topics. Practical exposure is one of the most important tools that we use for imparting knowledge. 

Book Loan Facility & Departmental Library:
Text Books and Reference Books are made available to students as per requirement. Through the book bank facility, the books are made available for the entire semester to each of the student. Apart from this the departmental library also maintains a collection of books and CDs on yearly basis useful for students. Various magazines like PC Quest, Dataquest, Digit, and Chip are subscribed and issued to the students regularly.


Internet facility is available to the students whereby they can get information that is needed to prepare their projects and reports. It also helps them to gather up to date information about the latest topics in their subjects. 

This facility is further used to give students hands on knowledge regarding different software’s that are used for professional purpose.

Guidance and Counseling Cell:
Guidance is provided to our students with regards to their career and social needs by well known IT & Education Consultant. We have also introduced a departmental counseling cell where teachers are in constant touch with students regarding any issues that they face, which could be either social or financial in nature.

Placement Cell:
The College has formed a placement cell to help the students to seek suitable jobs. Many students have been placed in various IT companies like TCS, ONGC, M & A Associates, Marg software, etc. in the last couple of years. Business line newspaper which is a publication of ‘The Hindu’ has also collaborated with us to assist us place our students.

Academic Events:
Seminars, Workshops and Training Programs on various aspects of IT, personality development, communication skills, and career opportunities are conducted on a regular basis. BMM students are taken for visits to different Radio stations, to understand the practical aspect of recording and editing. They also visit newspaper houses to understanding printing process.

People from the industry such as (Television, Radio, and Films) come to address the students and help them develop their proficiency in the subject.

Industrial Visits:
Industrial visits to various IT firms and institutes are another highlight of the department. A number of short visits covering organizations in and around the city and one long industrial visit to IT Hubs like Bangalore, Delhi, Pune and other far off places with prominent IT companies are organized.

Co-curricular and Extracurricular Activities:
Students are encouraged to take part in various co-curricular and extracurricular activities, competitions at college and inter-collegiate level like debate, essay writing, street plays, dance competition, website designing, power point presentations etc.

Value added Courses:
For further enrichment of students, value added courses are incorporated in the curriculum. 

Ø  Creative Writing : Creative writing is any writing that goes outside the bounds of normal professional, journalistic, academic, or technical forms of literature, typically identified by an emphasis on narrative craft, character development.  For e.g.:poetry, script, short story, professional writing, and experimental writing

   Ø  Radio Broadcasting:

$ Explore and exploit your voice

$  Write and present radio shows

$  Voice control, modulation, projection and inflection

$  Public speaking, news reading and Voice Over


Student Evaluation System: 

 It helps the faculty and parents to improvise the academic and personal performance of the students. A student report card is generated which displays following information 

  • Attendance Record as per subjects
  • Internal’s conducted with Marks secured
  • Remarks about the Individual
  • Intimation for Parents Teachers Meeting


About the Faculty:

Asha Nangalia: Mrs. Asha Nanglia has done her MA in English. She has successfully conducted seminars in reiki, Feng Shui and Astro Vasstu. She conducts classes for ceramic painting and cooking. She has been associated with Durgadevi Saraf Junior College, N.M. College and Dalmia College

Simran Sanyal:  She is a Masters in Mass Communication and Journalism and also a Masters in English. She has worked with ‘The Hindustan Times’. She was a corporate trainer with HSBC bank. She has directed many stage plays for college and university level.

Vinay Dubey: He has a Masters in Journalism and Masters in English. He has also done his Bed. He comes from the television industry, and has worked with Balaji tele films.  He has also worked in the print media in the technical department.

Sangeeta Jain: Mrs. Sangeeta Jain has been associated with the college since last eight years. She has completed her M.Com in Management from Mumbai University and aslo SET qualified.  She always guides and encourage the students to follow the right path. Her areas of interest are Finance, Insurance and Accountancy.

Nidhi Sisodia: Mrs. Niddhi Sisodia has been associated with the college since two years.  She has  total five years  experience. She has completed her MBA in HR and Marketing & MA in English. Her areas of interest are Functional English, Business Correspondence, HRM ( Human Resource Management).

UPS of the department

·   Media Snippets: News letter (Media Snip’s) – A bi-yearly newsletter is published by the students of BMM department. It contains the events organized by the professional courses department. This enables the students to bring their creative side to fore.

·         Interactive sessions to different depart of Media industry to gain practical knowledge.

Online Internal Examination

An “ONLINE INTERNAL EXAMINATION SYSTEM” was introduced and successfully carried in the Department. All faculty members prepared more than 150 multiple choice questions for their respective subject. Students at random had to answer 40 questions each. After submitting the last question, system automatically generates the result and Mark Sheets for individual student. It was a unique exciting experience for the students.
