Mission Statement

The Department of Psychology at Shri M.D. Shah Mahila College has a threefold mission: to advance and transmit knowledge related to the nature of psychological processes; to provide a strong foundation in the basic knowledge and skills necessary for advanced study in psychology and related disciplines; and to provide the competence necessary for successful careers

Goals

To fulfill its mission, the Psychology Department has ten goals

1. To promote psychology as a science & profession and the important role it plays in advancing human welfare.
2. To open the minds of the students towards the huge diversity of the field of Psychology and its very wide scope of applications for human welfare
3. To let the students, know that only sky is the limit when it comes to Psychology and to let them know that they’ve almost unlimited choice of careers after they complete their graduation
4. To provide the students with multicultural knowledge in Psychology and giving them understanding regarding use of Psychology for the purpose of promoting social justice
5. To provide the students a multi-perspective approach in Psychology so as to let them think from all these perspectives so as to have a broader understanding of individual human behavior
6. To provide competence to students whose career goals require knowledge and skills in diverse psychological areas.
7. To provide students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary for advanced training programs in psychology.
8. To provide graduate programs in the basic and applied aspects of psychology.
9. To ensure that graduate program in Psychology follows professional standards
10. To support & facilitate the professional development of faculty
11. To encourage and support research necessary for the advancement of knowledge.
12. To provide adequate facilities required for teaching, research, and other endeavors important in education and professional development.
13. To disseminate knowledge of psychology to the community at large
14. To give maximum exposure to students by providing the very best in undergraduate instruction both inside and outside the formal classroom so that students may acquire an understanding of behavior

COUNSELLING CENTER

The Counselling Center staff welcomes you to our Center with the hope that our services can be of help to you. The Center is staffed with Clinical Psychologists & Counsellors who are part of the Department of Psychology.

The Counselling Centre provides a wide variety of counseling services to students, faculty, and staff, as well as community members from the surrounding area. Our services include individual therapy for children and adults, families of students, group therapy, career counselling and evaluations for learning disabilities and ADHD. The Counselling Centre also actively works with the Examination Committee and supports and Counsels students using unfair means during semester examinations.

BACHELOR OF ARTS IN PSYCHOLOGY

1. PSYCHOLOGY & HISTORY COMBINATION- Students interested in making career in psychology should opt for Psychology -History combination as they can study additional four papers in Applied Psychology.
2. PSYCHOLOGY & CHILD CARE COMBINATION – Students interested in working with children should opt for Psychology-Child care combination.
