Language is a root source of our existence & culture. Robert Hall Says, “Nor could human society exist without language. Languages form the major link between the individual and Society”. Literature is an art of language in different form. The literary art deals with human life, it also gives a vision of life. Thus literature is an art of life. Literature develops imaginative & analytical approach.

The impact of globalization has changed the scenario in education. In this global era literature can play very important role. The knowledge of literature & language skill is very important for human resource development as well to create harmony in society. In the present age of Information Technology, literature can play an important role in Journalism & Mass Communication. The knowledge of language helps in developing good communication skill, comprehension and reasoning. It is through language skill that students can get good success in their career.



About Department
The Department of Gujarati takes pride to be the oldest department of the college. It was started in the same year when the college was established in the year 1968.
The Department of Gujarati has two streams. Students are offered Gujarati subject as Discipline Component (D.C.) and Ancillary Component (A.C.) at BA I / II / III level
(U. G. Level). Commerce students can offered Gujarati subject as elective component in second year. The Department offers total-11 papers in both the faculty- Arts & Commerce. Brief introduction of the syllabus is as under:-



Faculty Profile
Shri Hitesh Pandya, M.A, Ph.D is the Head of the Department. His Ph. D. is titled "Nostalgia in Gujarati Essays". An Expert in Sanskrit language he takes a keen interest in dramatic activities in and outside the College.

Nimisha Parmar, M A, B. Ed. works as the lecturer in the Department.



Achievements / Activities

Report writing of the departmental activities for newspaper-writing skill for mass media, script writing, translation.

We train the students for singing (literary poems) & Dramatization.

Motivation for Creative Writing work & to guide them.

How to use computer & internet surfing for gathering information about literature

D. T. P. work in Gujarati, other regional languages & English

Department also conducts workshop for acting, short term course for English speaking & personality development (for Vernacular medium students).


Through all this extra efforts, personal guidance & motivation we are trying to help our students to explore new careers & opening in the expanding media.



Career Options:-
a) Education
Students can teach in schools, colleges, university or private coaching classes & private home tuitions. Students can work as a librarian in any educational institute or public library.
Students can work as Personal Secretary, as P.R.O. in any sector or company. Students can do Correspondence official work in any educational institute, government or any other local organization.
Students can form their own group or organization for cultural events.
Students can organize, compare or Anchor any literary or social event
Students can make their career in Journalism or Mass-media (translation, editing, scriptwriting, news reader, interviewer or anchor the T.V Channel program).
Students can choose Computer D. T. P. work in English / Gujarati & any other regional language

b) Acting, travel, tourism, hotel management, sales marketing officer, LIC officer, Advertise Company, Modeling or any other language skill bases field.

c) Gujarati is a link language for business world trade, especially in relation with stock exchange market. Through functional use of Gujarati language, students can opt their career in commercial world.

Achievements of Department

A Book was published by the department on Folk Literature ‘Loksahitya Apno Sanskrutik Varso’ Collection of articles on Gujarati Folk literature. (2004-Jan). [based on U.G.C National level seminar held on 13-14th Sept 2002]

Student actively participated and worked as volunteer during Centenary Mahotsav of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad & 53rd conference at Kandivali (on 23-24 & 25th Dec 2005)
